Two Miracle Miles

~Why Hampton Beach, New Hampshire will always have my heart no matter where I travel~

Another chilly New England morning, waking up early to the smell the salty air. I lace up my favorite Nike's in preparation for one of my favorite things, a walk along my hometown beach.

In the small town of Hampton, New Hampshire there are two miles of breath taking coastline. From surfers to concert goers, there is entertainment for everyone on Hampton Beach.

Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom is the most intimate concert venue I have ever experienced. Being up close and personal with Lee Brice, Snoop Dog, and Hunter Hayes were all amazing experiences. Pair concerts with a round or two of skee-ball at Playland Arcade and it is a night to remember.

With so many amazing things to do in Hampton Beach, New Hampshire, I am often asked what my favorite thing about my hometown is. I always struggle with answering this but I usually reply by saying my favorite part of my hometown isn't a thing at all, it's the people that make up my community.

Many mornings while walking along the beach you will find a pop up yoga session or, if the surf is swell, many braving the chilly Atlantic together, boards in hand.

Each and every student, staff, and faculty member at Winnacunnet High School has encouraged me in one way or another. Pushing me to set goals, go out of my comfort zone and achieve my dreams. Some of my favorite memories came from that healthy rivalry between Winnacunnet and Exeter. The sense of community encouragement, no matter the activity, has to be my favorite part of my hometown.

The miracle that lies within this community comes from their hearts. September saw hurricanes that ripped towns apart in Texas but brought my small community together. One local tavern served as a collection center where donations came by the dozens. Canned food, clothing, and pet supplies filled not one but two, eighteen-wheelers, that made the 2,000 miles to aid those affected by hurricane Harvey.

What makes these “Two Miracle Miles” so incredible are the people. This place I call home has so much to offer aesthetically, yet, it is so much more than what meets the eye. Whether it is yoga on the beach, the rivalry football game, or a group coming together to send aid to Houston, I believe that these people have helped to shape me into the person I am today. No matter where life takes me I know I will always call Hampton Beach, New Hampshire my home.
